The ideal candidates for breast augmentation are women who:
- Are unhappy with their breasts because of small size or underdevelopment
- Are unhappy with the affects of childbirth on their breasts
- Would like more fullness and symmetry
- Are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations
Many women desiring breast augmentation never fully developed and have been self-conscious of their appearance since youth. Others have had children and noticed significant shrinkage and sagging of the breast tissue following childbirth or breast-feeding. Other still just simply want an enlargement or have more fullness to the breasts.
All these women desire to look proportional and feel attractive.
Most women know that they want to look better, but they don't know how to get there. If they are happy with the position of the breasts are, usually a breast implant is the answer. If they start to have some droop to the breast, then the recommendations may change depending on how much droop there is. See the difference between a lift and an augmentation here.
Prior to your Consultation: Of course you may call our office anytime at (918) 743-5438 to ask any questions that you may have. A little preparation can help your consultation move along smoothly. First you will need to fill out a Patient Information Packet. This may take 10-15 minutes, and may be downloaded here to be filled out prior to arriving. Also, we take several types of payment for the procedures. We accept cash, personal checks (at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure), cashiers checks, money orders, most major credit cards, and financing. If you will need to finance any part of your procedure, it is best to pre-apply prior to your consultation. You can get more information about financing here.
Consultation:
Plan on spending 1 to 2 hours in our office. During this time, we will go over any pertinent medical history. Perform a quick exam and obtain photographs.
Dr. Whitlock will discuss, in detail, all options regarding the types of implants, placement of the incisions and implants in regards to the pectoralis major muscle. Dr. Whitlock will also answer all questions that you have.
From the measurements that were obtained during the exam, an implant size will be recommended. At this time, you will be able to "try on" the sizes to determine what size is best for you. You will then watch an interactive computer program on this procedure.
Finally you will recieve your no pressure quote. This quote includes all pre and post-op clinic visits, the office fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, and bra. The only non-included items are 3 affordable prescriptions.
Surgery:
The procedure is performed at Memorial Surgery Center. This is a fully staffed outpatient facility with nurses and anesthesiologists. You will likely be asleep, under general anesthesia, during the procedure. We place numbing medicine just before you awake, so that you remain comfortable the rest of the day. You will be at this facility for 3 to 4 hours before being able to go home.
Although we give you a prescription for pain medication, most women have reported needing only 1 - 4 pills, if at all. With the current technique employed, most of our patients have experienced much less pain than anticipated. In fact, we recommend getting out of the house the afternoon of the surgery to go eat or shop. Although, we recommend that you can expect to be off work 3-4 days, many women state that they feel they would have been able to return to work within 24-48 hours.
