Whitlock Cosmetic Center offers labiaplasty to the residents of Tulsa, Broken Arrow and the surrounding Oklahoma communities.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty, also referred to as labioplasty, is a procedure designed to either reduce and shape the labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina) or the labia major (outer vaginal lips) or both. The surgery is often recommended for patients who experience pain during intercourse or wish to correct the appearance of their labia, which has been elongated or misshapen as the result of aging, genetics, or childbirth.
Setting up a consultation
To see if labiaplasty is right for you, you should set up a consultation with Dr. Whitlock. However, before you do so, make an appointment with your family physician, which may involve undergoing blood work or an EKG to determine if you are medically fit to undergo surgery. Once you have been cleared by your physician, you can sit down and confer with Dr. Whitlock about the surgery.
Preparing for the surgery
Usually, labiaplasty patients are advised to avoid taking pain medications such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), blood thinners, or aspirin about two weeks before the surgery in order to reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding. Also, some types of herbal or nutritional supplements can increase the risk of bleeding, namely vitamin E, Omega-3 fatty acids (such as those found in fish oil), and ginkgo biloba.
In addition, if you smoke or drink, it’s a good idea to refrain from doing so about a week before you undergo a labiaplasty procedure. Antibiotics are often prescribed right before surgery to reduce the chance of infection. Patients are advised not to have intercourse the night before the labiaplasty as well.
A quick overview of the procedure
Before undergoing labiaplasty, the patient is given a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic to numb the surgical area. Dr. Whitlock then marks off the section or sections that will be reduced. Depending on the size and configuration of the labia, he cuts and shortens the vaginal lips accordingly. Typically, to prevent nerve damage, the outer excess tissue from the middle of the labia is removed. Dr. Whitlock will either use surgical scissors, a laser, or scalpel to perform the outpatient surgery. The incision is sewn up with dissolvable sutures. Overall, the procedure takes about two hours to perform.
G-Spot enhancement, one of the newest procedures available for the female body, is intended for women who would like to increase their ability to achieve orgasm through vaginal stimulation. An injection of cosmetic filler is used to enlarge the G-Spot, making it easier to stimulate and achieve orgasm. The effects last for approximately four to 12 months. G-Spot enhancement can be done in our office as an outpatient procedure so patients will be able to return to the comfort of their home that same day.
As an addition to surgery, some women find bio-identical hormones beneficial to increase sexual drive, interest, and gratification. Please contact our office to learn more.
