Whitlock Cosmetic Center offers tummy tucks to the residents of Tulsa, Broken Arrow and the surrounding Oklahoma communities.
What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure which is meant to flatten the stomach. Also called abdominoplasty, the surgery is designed to eliminate the appearance of a protruding or sagging abdomen. Surgery is also indicated for the following reasons:
- The skin in the stomach area has become flaccid and loose because of an excessive loss of weight
- The abdominal muscles have become weakened due to pregnancy
- Patients are seeking a way to reduce the appearance of stretch marks
Setting up a consultation
If you live near Tulsa, Broken Arrow or the surrounding Oklahoma communities, and believe you could benefit from tummy tuck surgery, set up an appointment for a consultation at Whitlock Cosmetic Center to determine if you are a good candidate. Typically, people who can benefit from this procedure include those individuals who
- Have a stomach that is out of proportion in comparison to the rest of the body
- Have an excess of fatty tissue in the stomach area
- Have sagging or excess abdominal skin
- Have weakened abdominal muscles as the result of pregnancy
When you make an appointment for a consultation, make sure you alert Dr. Whitlock about specific details of your medical history, such as allergies to medications, past treatments or therapies, current and past medical conditions, prior surgeries, and pregnancies.
After the consultation, you will meet with our patient care coordinator to review your quote, discuss financing, and if you are ready, schedule your surgery and pre-op appointment. Your quote will include all of your pre- and post-op clinic visits, surgeon fee, and compression garment. The only items not included are your prescriptions.
What to expect from the procedure
To perform the surgery, Dr. Whitlock generally will make a lengthy incision across the area of the hip bone just above the pubic area and follow up with a second incision. The skin is then separated from the wall of the abdomen up to the rib area. The muscles, in turn, are tightened by stitching them closer together. Usually, a partial tummy tuck is performed for patients whose fat is located primarily below the navel; therefore, the procedure is less time-consuming or complex.
An abdominoplasty takes approximately two to four hours to perform or just a couple hours in case the patient elects a partial tummy tuck.
Possible risks, although rare, can include blood clots or infection.
After the surgery
After the surgery, you may experience a bit of pain along with some swelling or bruising. Most patients in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, OK and surrounding areas, are able to return to work within a month’s time and can resume more rigorous activities in about two months. Scars from the surgery eventually fade after a year or two.
The surgery is generally quite successful as long as the patient follows a balanced eating plan and maintains a regular regimen of exercise after undergoing the procedure.
